The University of Pittsburgh is committed to advancing scientific discovery and clinical innovation while educating and preparing future researchers, physicians, health care providers and administrators. Pitt’s health sciences programs continue to receive high national recognition with the April 8 release of the U.S. News & World Report 2025 Best Graduate Schools rankings. While these rankings can't fully capture all the strengths of a school, many of Pitt's health sciences programs are well-represented on the list.*
Fields in Pitt’s health sciences that rank in the top 10 include:
- Nursing-Anesthesia #2
- Occupational Therapy #3
- Audiology #5 (tie)
- Speech-Language Pathology #5 (tie)
- Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner #5
- Physical Therapy #9
“We are honored and humbled to be ranked the No. 2 nurse anesthesia doctoral program by U.S. News & World Report for 2025,” said John O’Donnell, director of the nurse anesthesia program. (Read more about the School of Nursing’s 2025 ranking achievements.)
In this year’s rankings, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences (SHRS) programs continue to rank among the top in the nation. Alongside four top 10-ranked programs, SHRS is celebrating another ranking achievement as its Physician Assistant Studies program made a 24-spot leap into #26 in the nation.
“Thanks to the hard work, expertise and passion of our faculty, staff, students and alumni, our Physician Assistant (PA) Studies program continues to grow in national recognition,” said Christina Davis, assistant professor and chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. “This achievement is a testament to our collective efforts in seeing health from every angle, delivering excellent education and preparing future PAs to make a real difference.”
For certain disciplines, the rankings are based on surveys of academic leaders at peer institutions. In other categories, the numbers are data-driven. The full list of Pitt’s graduate school rankings can be found by visiting U.S. News & World Report.
*This publication delays the release of its updated medical school rankings, so the current list still includes last year’s medical school rankings.
