Sylk Sotto, EdD, MBA, MPS

Sylk Sotto is responsible for engaging leaders across our six health sciences schools to create optimal organizational practices that advance faculty development, research and learning environments; for developing strategies to enhance faculty affairs, career development and vitality; and for evaluating and improving research and institutional processes and practices.

Dr. Sotto joined Pitt Health Sciences directly from Indiana University School of Medicine, where she served in various leadership roles focused on faculty affairs and professional development, and health equity. She also served in leadership roles at the Indiana Clinical and Translational Institute as chief diversity officer, codirector of workforce development, and director of All IN for Health, a program dedicated to improving the health of Indiana residents by promoting health research literacy, including a state-wide research volunteer registry.

A nationally recognized leader in her fields, Dr. Sotto is recognized for scholarship encompassing faculty affairs and professional development, medical education and inclusive learning environments, organizational structures and leadership, and the intersections of research ethics, community engagement and health outcomes. She has served as president of the Administrators of Internal Medicine and on the Board of Directors for the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine. Additionally, she is an active member of the Association of American Medical Colleges’ affinity groups and other prominent professional societies.

Dr. Sotto earned a BS in chemistry from Colorado State University. Her MBA, MPS in health care leadership with a concentration in health policy, law and ethics, and EdD in higher education are from the University of Denver. She is a native of Puerto Rico.
